Books / eBook : Tree-kangaroos of Australia and New Guinea

Tree-kangaroos of Australia and New Guinea
Tree-kangaroos of Australia and New Guinea By Roger Martin
2005 | 169 Pages | ISBN: 064309072X | PDF | 4 MB
To many people, the suggestion that a kangaroo could live up a tree is fantasy. Yet, in the rainforests of far north Queensland and New Guinea, there are extraordinary kangaroos that do just that. Many aspects of their anatomy and biology (particularly their bipedal hopping ability) suggest a terrestrial kangaroo ancestor. Yet no one has, so far, come forward with a convincing explanation of how, why and when an animal that was so superbly adapted for life on the ground should end up back in the trees. This book reviews the natural history and biology of tree-kangaroos from the time of their first discovery by Europeans in the jungles of West Papua in 1846 right up to present day, covering the latest research being conducted in Australia and New Guinea. Combining information from a number of disparate disciplines, the author sets forth the first explanation of this apparent evolutionary conundrum.

Martin Mowforth, "Tourism and Sustainability: Development, globalisation and new tourism in the Third World Ed 4"
English | ISBN: 1138013250 | 2015 | 476 pages | EPUB | 6 MB
By January 2015 the world's richest 80 people had as much wealth as the poorest 50 per cent of the world's population. It is a global unevenness through which the barriers to in-migration of Third World migrants to wealthy First World nations go ever higher, while the barriers to travel in the reverse direction are all but extinct.

Books / eBook : The Tao of Computing

The Tao of Computing
The Tao of Computing By Henry Mackay Walker
2005 | 503 Pages | ISBN: 0763725528 | PDF | 8 MB
In 1999, the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board of the National Research Council published a booklet, "Being Fluent with Information Technology." The booklet contained a report that identified 10 high-level intellectual capacities, 10 information technology concepts and 10 information technology skills essential for a basic understanding of computer fluency. This book was developed to present and explain those essential topics. Walker does an excellent job in explaining the concepts in a manner that can be comprehended by a beginner. Very little beyond the basic capability of reading is assumed, even middle school children can understand it. A set of discussion questions and a set of exercises are included at the end of each chapter. No solutions to either set are provided. The topics are presented as a series of questions with detailed answers. For example, the questions for chapter 7, "What Can Computers Do For Me?" are:*) What types of problems are computers good at?*) When would a computer's storage and retrieval skills help me?*) How does a computer's computational capabilities help me?*) What else can a computer help me with?*) What do good applications have in common?*) Why can a computer guide astronauts into space but not predict the stock market?*) If computer programs that predict the stock market are unreliable, how can I tell when other computer programs might be giving unreliable results?*) For problems that a computer can solve, what process should I use to get an answer?*) Can some computers solve problems that other computers can't solve?*) What are Turing machines?*) So, what do Turing machines have to do with computers today?*) If all computers are universal, how do they differ?*) How can I decide what machine I should buy? These questions are the subheadings of the chapters in the table of contents, making it easy for the reader to find a particular question that they would like answered. Although there will always be a few holdouts, it is clear that a basic understanding of how computers work and can be used is now an essential life skill. This book provides the means to learn the essentials and it can be used as either a textbook in a formal class or for self-study. I strongly recommend it for both.

The Space Between Chaos. Questions. Magic. Welcome to your twenties
The Space Between: Chaos. Questions. Magic. Welcome to your twenties. by Zara McDonald, Michelle Andrews
English | September 1st, 2020 | ISBN: 9781760144999 | 268 pages | True EPUB | 3.22 MB
There's this weird gap in life that's fuelled by cheap tacos and even cheaper tequila - also known as our twenties. It's a specific limbo between being a teenager and a Proper Adult, and though it's wildly confusing, often lonely, sometimes embarrassing and frequently daunting, there's also a whole lot of magic to be found in the chaos. It's a time when we're finding our own voices, cementing our relationships and starting to fulfil our big ambitions (or simply just working out what they are).
